MONDAY 10.21.19 KENTUCKY THE CREATION MUSEUM

Today we got a little later start than what we planned. When constantly on the go it catches up with you and you just have to sleep in at some point. Today was one of those days for both of us. It was a little after 10 before we finally got in the truck and we planned on being at the Creation Museum when it opened at nine. Oh well, you know what they say about plans, made to change.

We got the truck secured and started to the towards the museum.  We passed a pretty water area on the way.

We weren't expecting to have to cross a swinging bridge so we took the time for photo ops.

Neither one of us knew what to expect when we went to the Creation Museum.   We didn't have any pre-conceived ideas and hadn't read anything about it.  Our main focus was The Ark.

Its main focus seemed to be dinosaurs.

We get that the museum was about the creation of the world, but for myself, I never gave dinosaurs much thought. I was taught in school that they walked the earth millions of years ago and that was that. It boggles my mind that just a mere 6 to 10,000 years ago the dinosaurs were here. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my mind around that.

We walked through the museum part first.  This is still a work in progress so there were areas that were blocked off by curtains but the majority of it is done.

I was really hoping a bit of animatronics had made its way inside the museum and that this dinosaur started moving at just the right time to scare the heck out of him.  Just as well, I'd be laughing so hard I wouldn't have been able to get this picture.

This is a very intricate quilted piece that hung in the stairwell.  I didn't understand everything on it but it was a joy to look at.

We saw the "movie" IN SIX DAYS in the 4D theater, The theater is just wonderful, you not only saw the 3D movie with the best 3D glasses ever (!) but the seats were wonderful and we "felt" so much through the seats, hence 4D.

There were gardens to walk through and though we would have loved to do that when we headed that way it was pouring. There is also a children's playground area, a petting zoo, camel rides, and a zipline

We also attended a program in the lecture hall that was actually a podcast.

This experience certainly left us with lots to ponder.

SUNDAY 10.20.19 KENTUCKY

We weren't supposed to arrive until today so we're way ahead of the game.

We decided it would be a good day to catch up on some household chores. First things first, laundry. Do I ever appreciate my washer and dryer at home now! Laundromats are expensive! Granted, we had four regular machines and then one of those jumbo machines that cost $3.75 just for that one but still. It didn't help that when we left the camper we left the bottle Tide on the table. Walmart was closer so Walt went there while I got the machines loaded. Laundry day was expensive!

By the time we got back to the campground most of the spaces that were empty when we left were filled. We were still with just one neighbor, a single woman camping by herself. Rachel, in the office, was going to to try to get us into a spot with hookups if there were any cancellations. As it turned out, two cancellations came in and she was trying to move people around so that we could at least have that. After talking it over we decided that we were satisfied where we were, we had everything we needed and didn't relish the idea of two moves within the time we were going to be here. I let her know that she didn't have to try anymore but that we appreciated her efforts.

We asked a 30 something woman in the laundromat where the closest sports bar was and she couldn't give us much of a choice. Up until a year ago this was a dry county and sports bars in this area are just coming into being. She did recommend one Italian restaurant that had an abundance of TV's in every room so we were able to watch our Eagles lose to the Cowboys,,,,,of all teams! However, the pizza was good!

SATURDAY 10.19.19 KENTUCKY WILLIAMSTOWN

We got on the road pretty early because we don't have a clue where we are going to stay once we get to what we want to do today. We started out headed to Cleveland. Now why in the world would anyone go to Cleveland???? Well, we were going to see the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Luckily, before we had to make a determination on which road to take I thought to call them to see about parking since we ran into that situation with the Lucy and Desi Museum with their parking situation. So I called, they told me they didn't have parking for an RV of any size but that there was parking not too far away, just a couple of blocks walk where we could park. To the tune of $35.00 No. Way. What a rip off! Why do museums build but not have parking facilities? I do realize that the R&RHofF was built back in '83 and that 37 years ago RV;s were few and far between, nothing like today. But times have changed and a lot of us boomers have RV's and we travel to see things like the R&RHoF At the very least they should have some kind of agreement with the place a few blocks away for reasonable parking fees and a shuttle bus to the museum. We were both greatly disappointed because we really, really wanted to go there.

So I called to the place we're going in Kentucky to see if we could come in a day early. Since we will be in overflow there was no problem.

So on to Kentucky. Now we had no idea what kind of park we were going to but we really had second thoughts when we pulled onto the road that leads to it. Picture this. A one lane road with trees/brush on the driver's side On the passenger side, well, not the greatest neighborhood and we'll leave it at that. Now I can see two cars squeezing by each other but I don't see how 2 RV's of any size could. Now let's add in some BIG potholes! And let's not forget the blind curves. Oh and a STEEP HILL that leads down into the campground. Luckily, we did not encounter anyone coming out as we made our way in.

This campground is 50 years old and the couple who leases it are making improvements as fast as they can. The bathrooms/showers are just beautiful! The pool needs a lot of work and that's on their to do list. Rachel and Chris were very friendly and did everything possible to accommodate their campers.

Now one thing I do not like about this campground is the skinny bridges one has to go over to cross the creek bed. These "bridges" are one "wide as a wheelbase" lane only and I would panic if I had to drive my golf cart over it! I truly panicked, to the point I had to get out of the truck because I was so afraid we were going off the side since there were no railings at all. Now I know Walt certainly wouldn't drive the truck and camper off the side of this skinny, short bridge but I am deathly afraid of the right side of the road, ever since I was 17 and involved a car accident where the car rolled over twice on the right side and down embankment. It did get to the point that if I held on, white knuckled to the door handle, shut my eyes and held my breath I could make it across if Walt talked to me the whole time. I mean c'mon, we're talking 4 seconds here! Even I know how ridiculous this is but when you have a fear....

So here we are for the next four nights. We have a full fresh water tank, an empty black tank and solar on the roof. Alls right with our world.

FRIDAY 10.18.19 PENNSYLVANIA TO KENTUCKY

We sat over morning coffee and Pepsi this morning and debated on whether to stay another day or move on. We moved on.

The colors in western New York are starting but they aren't nearly as vibrant as we've seen.

We ended up near Erie, PA in a really nice, out in the country campground.

So we are sitting the dining table and we here "Quack, quack, quack." Ducks! Sure enough a herd of them came through our site.

The place was filling in fast and we noticed that it was mostly men that were here. We were both convinced that they were all here to hunt. Didn't exactly make us feel great about that because we figured they would all be heading out very early and sleep would stop for everyone around. Well, our thoughts were all wrong. About 6 pm the women arrived! This must be a camping club or one heckuva group of camping friends. Everyone seemed to know everyone else and we felt totally left out.

So what does one do if one wants to meet some new people? One takes Boss for a walk! He's like a magnet. We heard over and over again, "Look at that big dog!" and of course everyone wants to meet him, We met some nice people and this was a large group of friends.

Tomorrow we will be in Ohio! We've got something special planned!

THURSDAY 10.17.19 NEW YORK CORNING GLASS MUSEUM

Have you ever given much thought to glass? I'll be honest, I haven't. It was just always there. Windows. Pepsi bottles. Glasses. Dishes. The list goes on and on.

I didn't realize how close to Corning we were and was surprised to hear we were only 10 miles away. So today we went to the Corning Glass Museum. We wanted to do a glass blowing class but they only had one slot open at the end of the day. That wasn't going to work.

So we went through the museum, sat in on some demonstrations and bought a few things in the gift shop.

I was really sorry that we didn't get to take the glass blowing class and make something.

I knew as soon as we walked in the first artist showcased  was one I knew.  Dale Chihuly, I've seen his shows a couple of times now.

I would never in a million years think to pick clear glasses, green glasses,  gold glasses and brown glasses, assemble them on glass shelves and call it,,,,well, I don't know what they call it.  But I liked it!

Now you've all seen glass fruit at one time or another.  My      grandmother had a bowl of glass fruit that sat on the kitchen table  when I was a little girl.  It wasn't anything like this though!

Now you see why!

We took the time to sit it on a couple of demonstrations.  Here are pictures from one of them.

When I first looked at this I didn't quite know what to make of it.  Upon closer inspection

I realized what it was made of.

We made our way into the gift shop and believe me we could have spent a fortune in there.  It didn't hurt that some  most of the items were outrageously priced.   To us that is.  I'm sure the artists and collectors think these prices are just fine.  This piece below I liked very much and had every intention of buying it until I saw they wanted $158.00 for it.  Maybe another day,,,,,after we win the lottery.

Now we did buy several things,,,,from the 50% off table.  I collect snowmen so I got this one.

This is about 10 inches tall and filled with a string of teeny tiny lights.  It should be pretty when lit.

Walt was like a little kid in a candy shop when he saw the sports section.    We just had to have this!
