FRIDAY 9.6.19 TEXAS

This morning we slept in. It was eight before we got out of bed and got the day started. We never sleep this late!

It was 10:45 before we got to the bus stop across the street from the resort we're in. Our bus ride was going to cost us $1.35 each and Walt only had a five and a dollar bill on him. The bus driver explained that his bus didn't give change so we weren't to worry about it, the ride was on him. We were the only two on the bus so we stood in front and he just gave us the lowdown on San Antonio. What was a rip off, what we shouldn't miss and where to eat.

When we saw the "orange thing" I asked what it was and he laughed and said, "That sculpture is a gift from Mexico and it cost us taxpayers $38,000 to get it put in place!"

Our first stop was The Alamo. It is being worked on right now as the walls are being reinforced where they need it. Its hard to believe these walls are still standing. We watched the movie that is always associated with places like this and it was quite interesting.

Walking the grounds we were just taken with the trees. They are H U G E!

I took this before I was told no pictures were allowed.  This place is considered a memorial since so many lost their lives here.  I understood.

Now what's wrong with this picture?

From The Alamo we walked the short distance to the River Walk. Now Walt and I had every intention of checking out the shops, taking the boat ride, eating but those plans went all to hell in a hand basket.

We weren't on the River Walk 15 minutes when we asked about the boat ride. We were directed where to go and somehow got into a conversation with a man who works for the Wyndham Corporation. We were offered all kinds of gifts if we would listen to a 90 minute presentation. Walt and I discussed the gifts offered and agreed to give 90 minutes of our time. This is 90 minutes we'll never get back but we were given $75 in gift certificates for dinner at the restaurant of our choice, two boat ride tickets valued at $24 and a horse drawn carriage ride valued at $100. It didn't the take the salesman long to figure out that when we said NO, we meant it.

After the presentation we went to Dick's Last Stand for a late lunch.

Now if you've ever been to a Dick's Last Stand then you know what to expect. The server's are all rude and crude and its so much fun! The first time I went to one I was in Chicago and I made the mistake of asking for a straw for my drink. The server brought about a hundred straws and dumped them on the table and walked away.

Everyone gets a hat! Its made of paper and oh my, they do write some rather crude things on everyone's hat. So crude, you just have to laugh.

We'll be going back to the downtown area again tomorrow. We have a busy day planned seeing missions, more of the River Walk, having a nice dinner somewhere, taking a boat ride and seeing the town by horse drawn carriage.

I'm tired just thinking about it. More tomorrow!
