TUESDAY 9.3.19 Arizona / New Mexico

We've been working towards this trip since January and now the day is finally here.  Today we start what we hope is a trip that will take us to 33 states, 19 which will be new to us.  The nineteen are the ones we'll spend the most time in.

Here is where we've been so far.

We had to wait for a package from Fed-Ex before we could get on the road.  Since they couldn't tell us when it would be delivered we made arrangement to pick up as soon as they found it.  This was all arranged at 5:30 this morning!  As soon as Walt the new rolling cover on the pickup we pulled out at precisely 12:00 p.m..

I got to do something today I haven't done in a long time.  I drove while towing the travel trailer.  It was Walt's idea so  we pulled over to stretch our legs, take Boss for a walk and take in the scenery.  We couldn't help but notice the satellite dishes

We found what must be a good spot for pulling over because the guardrail was just covered in stickers!

I drove a good 50 miles and it was nerve-wracking!  Traffic was simply horrendous as you can see by the picture I've added.

We had hoped to get to El Paso, Texas today but that didn't happen.  We got started too late to make it that far so we settled in for the night in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  Forty eight miles shy of El Paso.  We stayed in Coachlight Motel and RV Park.  Had we arrived in daylight we may have kept going but Walt was tired from this very busy day!

The young lady who was at the counter said the credit card machine was down and I told her I would stop back in the morning and she was agreeable to that.

We had a hard time hooking up the water but the guy next to us helped us out and before long we had water and were settled in the for the night.

Gas mileage wasn't that good today because we were traveling into the wind the whole time.  It doesn't hurt that we packed nearly the entire house into the camper either,,,,or so it seems.

So this was our first day on the road.  Follow along as travel the highways and byways.
